i have been looking for an alternative for the james brand hell gap knife, i like the the size of it and the micarta handle and the blade size is perfect for me, but the price is a little bit too much for me right now and i’m looking for a cheaper alternative

Keep an eye out here!! A lot.of fine blades made and sold by members

im on a budget because i’m trying to test if i could use the knife anywhere, and i think that the james brand hell gap is the best knife for me when it comes to the perfect blade lenght, but i’ll see if i like blades that are made by members

Hmm...
Schrade Delta Wolverine is close to the length, in AUS 10
or
Schrade Delta Exertion is a bit longer, also AUS 10
or
Sog Tellus FX, also a bit longer than the Hell Gap, supposedly cryo 440C
or
Buck Selkirk -- the small one is closer to the Hell Gap size, Buck's 420HC
or
Ontario 6200 SPL Pack Knife in Magnacut, though a little longer blade-wise than the Hell Gap
or
Gerber Downwind (7Cr17MoV may be a deal breaker, or the sheath...)
or
Coast F401 1919 Reserve Limited Edition with 9Cr13Mov steel and G10 grips
or
something else ... of which there are lots more I know nothing about.

Good luck.

Happy hunting.

What I'd like to know is...

Why are you yelling?

Gotta make sure people see your thread, yeah?

We take a piss at TJB for being a "lifestyle brand", but here's the problem: the Hell Gap is a pretty well thought-out design.

Other fun fact, if you scroll to the bottom of the specs on their website, the design is from Portland, uses Crucible steel, but the knife is made in China. Take that for what it's worth.

The moderation team has specifically requested that we leave politics in another forum, so I will not comment further, except to say that I agree, it seems... a bit overpriced.

Right. So, about a 4" blade with a point that drops about 25%, as measured by the width from spine to edge, if that makes any sense. Handle about 4" as well, with very little space wasted in the transition between the two.

I'm going to have to be "that guy" and suggest the same old thing that everybody suggests. There's a reason for that.

Fallkniven. Blade size, blade shape, both are what you're looking for. Some of them have micarta slabs, some are their own flavor of that high-traction rubber stuff. "Santoprene" was the name I first heard for it. About the same price (as TJB) for some of the less fancy versions, and made in Japan. If that's important.

I'm also going to suggest Bark River, but be careful: some people have taken them to task for quality control issues.

Edit: and if none of those swing your bat, go look at the ESEE 4HM. I shoulda remembered that, in the first place....
