Some of us might remember the late James K. Mattis.

Mr. Mattis participated on these forums and may have moderated.

He designed knives, wrote articles, and made new grips for knives; ergonomically excellent grips.

He also designed a "sharp stick" wooden self-defense device that he called Jael's tent peg.

Mr. Mattis's web site has disappeared over the years, along with Jael's tent peg.

Does anyone have any pictures?

If you do, please PM me.

Thanks.

Oh wow- I remember those. Nice. I miss James, he really was a true gentleman if there ever was one. He added a good bit of class to this place. Would love to see one of those sticks.

I am James Mattis' daughter, Sharon Diaz. I think I inherited his Jael's Tent Peg. I will try to find it.

As a member here, I am humbled by the making of such a connection. Wishing fulfilment ...

You can read about the original Jael and her tent peg in Judges Chapter 4 verse 21. (Ouch!)
The story is repeated in Judges 5, as well.

I always looked for James Mattis' comments first when signing in. One of the most knowledgeable individuals on knives I've come across, and a gentleman. RIP, James.

I always looked forward to his hi res pics of knives, most notably, Sebenzas, back when digital photography was in it's infancy, and a big pic was 1280 x 720. I think I still may have a couple somewhere. I think I will look for them, and post, if I can find them.

My sig line used to be a quote from JKM. The guy was a true class act, a good humored gent and an intelligent, generous soul.

Used to BS with him during BFC Chat, along with other colorful persona like VG, Kit Carson, Rob Simonich and Pat Fogarty.

Had a knife shop as I recall... Chai Cutlery... your knife would come with the Chai symbol if you ordered from him. I always called him "Chai Guy" during Chat. Character.

Thanks for the memory, Ken.

Elenya, nice "meeting" you. Hope you can find it.

Thank you all for the wonderful comments about my dad. It means a lot. I think you can find my dad's soul in the search box of this forum. I do that sometimes.
