Heard that there was a good size brush fire outside James' sandbox in Glendale:

They mentioned 30 pct containment a couple of hours ago, but the wind's picked up since then in So. Calif and the dry, hot air's not going to help much (really weird Christmas holiday weather).

James (and Toni) Hope that all is well ... stay upwind. Same for the rest of you in So Calif.

Wow... I'm just around the corner from James in Highland Park, and this is the first I've heard of the fire. So my guess is that James is okay.

The fire is north-east of Glendale in the LaCanada-Flintridge area. Up around the intersection of the Glendale (2) and Foothill (210) freeways. The area is in the San Raphael hills (if I remember the name correctly). There are very expensive residential areas that mingle with chaperal in that area. The dramatic thing is that the fire jumped both freeways.

The Chevy Chase region of Glendale to the south does go into these hills.

Ryan, the fire is north of James' Glendale, in La Canada-Flintridge. Also a 2,000 arce fire burning in Ojai (saw the flames from the freeway this morning).

It's far enough from both home and work that I'm out of danger, but there are some nice homes at risk. As of early this morning the only structure destroyed was a police shooting range, though that could have changed by the time I'm typing this. And I'll have to make an end run on my commute this morning.

To be continued.

James, good to hear that you're out of harm's way.

Hope the winds do the firefighters a favor and fade. Was strong enough at 6am to make it a tough drive on the freeway to work in Ventura County.

Burned homes do put a crimp on the holiday shopping. Stay safe.
