This just came in today and I couldn't be happier with it. This is my first custom, and I am excited to say the least.
I got it on a trade here on Blade forums.
The photos in the post did it no justice, so I tried my best to capture it's details to share, specifically, the natural grain in the ivory.
It's beauty really can't fully be appreciated without seeing in person. When I opened the USPS box, it felt like Christmas.
Thanks Mike for a beautiful knife!

I like this little hunter a lot. I personally could do without the large pins, but this is a really nice looking knife.

That is a fine looking little boot knife.
You did well on your first custom acquisition.

Congrats. I love the color of the ivory, that's a beautiful knife.

That's nice. Very nice !

I've been getting belts and supplies from Pops & Kay for quite a few years now. Although I knew Pops made knives, until now, I had never seen any of his work.

Any idea as to when the knife was made ?

I find construction of this knife quite interesting. The fact that the ricasso and the tang (immediately following the guard), both appear to be exactly the same width, leads me to believe the tang/handle could possibly be framed construction.

Anyone care to enlighten me as to the construction method used here ?

Thanks for posting this one Evan :)

Pop is an excellent knife maker, but his down fall was that he was his worse critic. he has probably scrapped more knives than a lot of folks have made.
He mainly only made boot knives in the Herron style and dropped point hunters.
I have some pics somewhere. I've had several Pop knives over the years and they are pretty rare.

Congratulations. Beautiful knife.

Kind regards,

Jos

Thank you all, I feel lucky to have such a rare piece.
Anyone have a clue to the age? When did James stop producing knives? Serial is 484... I read somewhere he only made around 1000.

Call him, I'm sure he would love to answer your questions and you won't have to depend on second hand information. I never knew he made that many knives.
