Well, I am off to defend Alfred's Wessex from Guthrum's Danes this weekend. That is the scenario upon which the Anglo-Saxon Camp and the Ostviking Camp jointly decided for the Jamestown Military Through the Ages living history festival this weekend. AFAIK, I will be portraying Ealdred, the elderly Anglo-Saxon, perhaps as a an announcer during the tactical demonstration when the A-S defend a portion of the Jamestown Fort stockade from a surprise attack by Guthrum's Danes. Lots of action, boiling soup, rocks, and throwing axes to be seen.

The event is open to the public from 10AM to 4:30PM and, as they used to say, "Be there or be square."

Too cool Hugh! Have a boatload of fun er Danes er whatever... :) Maybe next year!!

I was approached by three people who recognized Tinker's Hand Sax that I was carrying and wanted to see it. When you think about it, his being in Seattle and all, that is a really astounding number and quite a compliment to his growing reputation. Also, more and more people are recognizing the Patrick Barta sword. Impressive. I must have one of the very first ones in the States.

I had a good time and the Danes, the Ostvik Vikings, also appeared to enjoy themselves.

It appears as if next year's MTA will really be something, as it is Jamestown's 400th Anniversary and they are planning a year-long celebration. If you are even thinking of trying to make MTA next year, I would give real hard consideration to making reeservations in the Williamsburg area NOW for the weekend, March 17-18, 2007.
