janisong worth $$$

Is the Jani-song ("J-Song" to me) avilable as a production piece, or are you taliking about the the test run?

The first-run are worth it AS COLLECTABLES, yes, definitely. As a user, no.

I'm delighted to see that Mike has finally got the J-Song into production. At $179, it's an expensive knife to be a user, true. It is a very unique and interesting kinfe with a solid lockup. But, it does not lock "automatically" as, say, a liner-lock is; that could be a deficiency for some users.

Overall, I like it and would spend $179 for it, yes.

I own one of the first production pieces, but I've done nothing more with it than open and close it once. It is definitely a collectors piece.

I don't mind the price at all, but I just don't like how they look very much. Prices are different in the bali world. The first decent bali you can get is like 85 dollars right now. In the normal folder world, you can get a pretty badass knife for 40.

Michael's Jani-Song is one of the great knife inventions of the recent decade. Well thought out and unique. I have one of the proto run.

I would suggest that it is a good price for a very unique piece.

I've watched the videos several times, but I still fail to understand the mechanism. How is this safer than a bali-song (which, if you're not carefully, will cut you)?

the way Mike designed it only allows you to hold the "safe" handle. When using a balisong there is a possibility of using the wrong handle, which has the blade edge facing toward it.

Try this VIDEO, it should give you a better understanding
