Does anyone have experience with the step drill from Jantz? I'll be using it for 1/4'' corbies and loveless bolts. I'm currently using a home made model and the hole it produces is slightly less than 0.25... drives me nuts sanding down the OD of the Corbies every time.

Pops, TrueGrit, or Knifekits step drills better?

i have a couple of them. What I do i drill a "pilot" hole all the way through the scale with a regular bit the dimeter of the corby shaft and then go in with the step bit.

Pop’s has the cheapest corby bolts I’ve found at $2 a pair(2 sets of male/female) and also offers a countersink bit for around $18. Very pleased with both.

10-4, thanks for the replies. I normally get my corbies from Pops too. By far the best pricing. I'm kicking myself because I just made a "re-stock" order and forgot to order the step drill last week...

 Guess I'll have to make another order of belts and corbies... #tragic

Thanks for the feedback.

My advice would be to always buy the Corby bolts and the specialized drill bit from the same source if you can. I had some 1/8 shaft micro Corby's from somewhere other than Jantz that are not quite 1/8 and won't properly fit a hole drilled in the tang with a regular 1/8 bit.

I've got a couple from pops. They have been a perfect fit for corby's from jephco and makers material supply also.

Pop's makes a good counterbore (step drill). His Corby bolts are a good deal, too.

However, a step drill will eventually wear down, .... especially if you use G-10, CF, ....and even with Micarta.
If you plan on doing Corbies regularly, buy the carbide counterbores from USA Knifemakers. They are dead on to fit a Corby. They also have good prices on the bolts. I can't imagine how long they will last with normal use. I expect my grandkids will end up with mine.
