A family of four was murdered last week.
Today, two little boys, age 3 and 4, were abducted and murdered.

But NO GUNs here, boy, no siree!

And how many times does that happen across the US on a daily basis?

Danny, if you hate Japan so much, why don't you leave?

Sorry to be so blunt about it, but it seems that all you do is talk about how much you hate the place.

No dangerous weapons, only dangerous people. I'm a gun owner, and enjoy it, but fully as dangerous without my guns as with them. You know that of all people Danny.

Sadly, most people are jsut sheep.

I dont know, cabbit, how many times?

If you dont like my posts, dont read them.

I post these things because many people are under the belief that japan is a crime-free society, a piece of propoganda spread by the japanese govt.

I dont hate japan.
I hate lies.

But , like I said, cabbage, you dont have to read my posts and you certainly dont need to reply to them.

Yes yes, resorting to name calling to win arguments is an example of a class act.

Japan is ranked 60th out of 63 countries when it comes to murders per capita.

Source: Seventh United Nations Survey of Crime Trends and Operations of Criminal Justice Systems, covering the period 1998 - 2000 (United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, Centre for International Crime Prevention).

Like millions of other Americans, I was raised to believe that "The Japs are sneaky and can't be trusted." Of course we were at war with them at the time.

But the Bomb evidently purified their culture and several decades later when they became the world's leader in the production of automobiles, electronics, and optics, they and their goods were trusted worldwide.

Japan is a great place to buy stuff from, but I would never want to live there.

For one thing in Japan, if a husband kills his wife and kids its recorded as a family suicide. Tends to skew the stats a bit.

For another, comparing countries to prove gun-control works is pointless:
e.g Jamaica, strict gun control, terrible crime rate; Switzerland, very low crime, but all militia (kind of like out national guard/reserves) members have the dreaded assult rifles in their house.

I think that same survey rates them 11th in "manslaughter" though.

Cliff, where does the U.S. rate?

If a foreign terrorist kills 1000's, does that add to a nation's homicide rate?

Tom

It's actually 27th in manslaughter per capita out of 43 countries.

In raw numbers, 533, Japan is 11th, but that does not take into account the population ratio.

A good number of countries did not report their manslaughter statistics (including the US).

I like Japan very much. I worked in Kyoto off and on for a couple of years. I enjoyed their Apple Blossom Festival, a week long event. People camping in the parks along the river and grass areas. I was there for their fire festival too. They burn "kanji" charactors up in the mountains at night and they are visible from Kyoto. They are huge in size and placed in various compass directions. It is quite impressive.

A girl working behind the desk at the hotel and her girlfriend came to spend a couple of weeks at my house in Florida, and my wife didn't mind.
They went shooting, canoeing and fishing with me and enjoyed themselves. The one girl did not speak English and had never been out of her town. Her family was quite upset. They thought she might have been in danger.

I have many stories to entertain you if anyone is interested?

As far as stats go....."figures don't lie but liars do figure" or when all else fails....manipulate the data.....

Wow, they visited crazy America gun culture and survived?! Surely this must be an anomaly. :D
Sure, we like tellin' tales in the Cantina.

One quick story.........The one girl had a crush for the blonde, blue eye surfer guy working on the job. She made trip just to see him. I told him that he could not misbehave, she was my responsibility. He stood her up after I arranged a small party with the fellows. When I saw him again he was ashamed and appologized. I told him that pretty little girl was to good for him.
And he was a worthless piece of dog crap! ;)
