Japanese Arms Exhibit in N.Y.C.

My old neighborhood. :)
I used to catch the bus to work outside the museum.
They have impressive Arms & Armor exhibits and I'm sure this will be spectacular.

I am going to place a copy of this announcement in the Community Center also.

I'm stuck in Iraq so its a no go for me!

If someone could please get some pictures and post them I would be most appreciative!

Looks like a good place to take my Daughter's Boyfriend to, take some nice pics.

Thanks for the tip, nice thing about NEPA where I'm at, I'm only a little over an hour from the City.

Hey anyone know anything about Sylvia's up in Harlem, any easy parkin', best times to eat there, tips on what to get for a first timer.

Esav, ever been there, are you a fan of down south home style cookin'?

Very cool exhibit. Unfortunately couldn't get to many pictures. Apparently no pics were allowed. Did get a couple before was unceremoniously told not to take pics.
:grumpy:

The armor and helmets were the most interesting parts at least to me. Always liked the look of samurai armor. They even had a few displays of the undergarments worn under the armor.
The armor you could tell was used in battle. There were tears on the sides and frayed material from wearing alot.

They exhibited alot of tachis and the difference between them and katanas is really pronounced. Tachis are much thinner and longer, compared to the beefier katanas. Especially the katanas made after the mongolians invaded.

Alot of the swords did seem like court swords, as in worn alot, but not used. I guess it is a museum display so they wont show dinged up weapons, other than that one ancient ken they had.

Think the longest blade there was a bit over 3 feet long.

I'll probably go out there again sometime soon preferably not after working all day. :) The museum does have extended hours on friday and saturday night. The exhibit is on the second floor, where all the special exhibits are shown. NOT in the regular arms and armor section.

I went in today with the family and enjoyed myself

No pics none where allowed

Highlights for me where seeing two blades attributed to Masamune

A heavily carved Tanto from Yasutsuga

A Tsuba acredited to Musashi

Some very impressive blades belonging to some very famous people

maybe silly question, but should i leave my small sebbie classic at home ???...thanks for any info

They ask you to check in any large bags. I didn't get physically searched the way you would at an airport.
