Digging that layered steel a lot. Looks like a convex grind. How's it slice?

nice looking find. hard for to tell but is that rust or just crud. i ask cus i got a few knives i picked up when i was over in japan and 2 that look like that rust so fast and stain.

its rust.... the blade was covered in it after about a month of having it... so i had to polish it to get it all off. and it was wrapped in cord and i just took it off gotta clean up the handle..

it is really really sharp one of the sharpest i have.. slices great!! and splits wood even better!!

so i decided on koa wood and made the scales. i also decided to etch and blue the knife with the help of a buddy!! here are some picks of it

i really like how the etching brought out the layers and the darkness frome the bluing really looks good with the koa!! it really turned out awesome

my first ever little project was fun!

Great Japanese fixed blade and nice job on the handles and finish. What type of steel is on that bad boy?

I had bought it in japan with a paracord wrap on the handle and the guy I bought it from didn't speak English so I have no idea what kind of steel it is would be cool if I knew.. It's some kind of carbon steel it's hold a real good eadge so it must have some quality to it. :)
