I realise that most if not all the Frost brand knives are considered junk, but I was wondering if there was a time when they were considered acceptable?

I have several Japanese made Frosts that seem to be pretty nice, but I wonder what others think of them.

I know someone who has a little lockback they love. It has a scrimshaw, takes a decent edge and is just what the little lady needs. Fit and finish are good.

Plumber,

I don't know how old this is exactly but I have had it for at least 10 years now. I got it as a new-in-the box old stock knife at a local show here in Palm Beach County, Florida. I used to edc this little lock-back all the time back then and alternated it back and forth with a 1970's Buck #503 which is the same size, when ever I wanted to have a small reliable lock-back.

marked: Frost Cutlery {over} Surgical Steel {over} JAPAN

She has got a great snap and lock up, fit and finish is par with any of my Buck's, no blade wobble side-to-side, get hair popping sharp with on my leather strop..

I would love to know exactly what type of steel this? Anyone?

Mine are marked the same as you describe.

Here's three of them.

They are all pretty nice(in my opinion). They lock up solid and although they've never been sharpened, they will shave the hair on your arm.

Wow, she's a beauty! So's the knife by the way.

Thanks Plumberdv, I like the etch of the woman too. :p :D

By the way, you've got a gorgious old Frost Cutlery trifecta going there.

I don't know squat about how to date these or what type of steel they used and when, but perhaps someone will come along and enlighten us, besides ole d.parker I mean.;)

Thanks. The person I bought the wood handled lockback from told me that it had a "whale" inlayed in it. Does that look like a whale to you?
