Hey everyone, i'm pretty new to the forum so I thought I would show a piece I have just completed to become more involved in the knife maker community.
I have always loved the shape of Japanese Tanto blades as well as Japanese hunting knives. When I started making knives I thought these are definitely what i'll make the most of.
This blade is cable damascus from a 10 inch long 1 inch diameter cable.
Handle is stabilized double dyed big leaf maple burl
heat treated with clay to create a hamon along the very edge.
17 Inches overall
10 inch cutting edge
Tell me what you guys think, this is the first knife I've ever made this big.
I think I did a pretty good job at revealing the cable pattern which i'm very happy with. I've learned the trick is using clay. The pattern shows much better on soft steel than it does on hard.
