I've been wondering if there're any japanese knives fans here in the forum (i.e. G. Sakai, Hattori, Moki, Seki Cut, Tsuge, etc).

I've seen and handle some of these knives at my regular dealer and have found their quality and finishing to be ver very top notch. You really won't believe the price tags attached to these fine pieces.

I really would like to buy some of these knives especially a Tsuge folder but have not seen reviews of it and searching on the web did not turn up anything.

I have found that I really like the looks of many of the top Japanese manufacturers knives. The problem is that I don't see many of them over here, so I have to check them out on the many Japanese knife sites. The prices on these knives can be incredibly high in Japan. I was looking at some Hattori damascus knives and they were as high as $2000.00US. Of course many of the high quality Japanese makers have much more reasonably priced knives, but none were inexpensive. Maybe these knives are higher priced in Japan for some reason and would cost less here.

Sean,my only experience with a Moki was pleasant. It was imported by Spyderco several years ago and must have been less popular than their clipit designs and was dropped from inventory.I traded it away a few months ago and feel that was a mistake.tom.

Moki sure does a nice job with the SERE 2000. The Hattori fixed blades look really nice too, I'll probably get one before too long.

America is blessed with very reasonable knife prices in comparison to many other countries. I have just spent nine months living in Germany, and I saw some extremely high prices on knives in German knife shops. The German brands like Boker were priced about the same as here, but imported knives cost far more. For example, I saw SOG Bowies priced at 399 euros in a shop in Frankfurt. At the current exchange rate that is over $440 US.

i handled a hattori damascus knife about 5 months back
still get a hardon thinking about it ;)
