Hello everyone I am brand new to blade collecting (and forums) and recently purchased 2 Paul Chen swords and I am having a very difficult time finding information on how to sharpen and maintain these blades. I have looked through many sites but none detail the exact and proper proceedure. Any suggestions/websites/ books anyone can recommend?

Are you going to love your Katana:D However, if you want to be a traditionalist, then you should know that the sharpening of the Katana and most Japanese blades is a function of the polishing. Of course, a lot of "Western Warriors" use any standard sharpening technique to maintain the edge. You might try this Website:

for a lot of discussing on the various ways and means to polish/sharpen the blades in the traditional Japanese way.

Also, we have a tendency to rehash/rediscuss this also on this forum.:D

Wow there is alot of info there I have been looking everywhere for this. Maybe you could help with another question, I am looking at purchasing a folded blade and was wondering if I should stick with the Paul Chen line or is there anything better out there without spending $10,000? I saw the other major competitor with CAS and that was the Kris Cutlery. Now some of the reveiws I read said the pratical sword for Kris was more functional than the PK, is this true? I truthfully like the look of Chens swords much better from what I have seen but it is always nice to have a useful sword (kind of like buying a fake leather jacket, it looks the same but just doesn't have the right feel :D ) anyways any info you can provide is most appreciated.
