Japanese swords indentification

I have had theses swords for about 12 years, my gf at the time purchased them for me because I was interested in Japanese swords at the time and wanted a set that actually had a sharp blade on them. However, I have had them long enough and they just sit in my closet. I have recently taken an interest in firearms and would like to start a collection as well as microtech otf knives. I was wondering if some one can help me out with the backround on what exactly I have here. I have searched the internet forever and the closet thing I can find to them is the black katana with knives and black wakizashi by Marto. Sorry about the pics... all I have is my phone to take the pics with. They are blue with the handle being blue wrapped around silver foil like material and a gold samurai on a horse. The endcap of the handle is silver with a samarui shooting a bow and arrow on it. The scabbards are blue with specks of silver through out. The blades are sharp and have the wavy line (sorry forget what it's called). There is also a sticker that says made in Spain and what clearly looks like a Marto emblem from my internet research. XXX I know this isn't a place to ask for appraisals but I was just wondering for someones best guess? Thank you in advance for any information you can give. Thank you!

I did not buy them, I got them as a gift over 12 years ago. She told me when she gave them to me that they were very expensive. They are Marto it was confirmed on another board, I just have no clue of the value of them. I have no use for them.

look on ebay or craigslist for similar replica swords for sale.

I'm guessing less than $100

Maybe a little more Marto replicas are more expensive then your average replica. Many of them run from a couple of hundred dollars up to 1000 or a little more. However I agree with your sentiment. "Very expensive" is a relative metric, especially when talking about swords to a non-sword person.

Yes, replacement cost on them is over a 1000 dollars but I suspect that you would have a hard time realizing that value on a sale. After all, if someone is willing to pay that price they could just buy new ones. For the most part knowledgeable people that are willing to drop 500+ for a sword are not going to want to spend that much money on a decorator piece anyway since there are many more functional pieces available for the same or even less money. You might want to look on ebay completed auctions to see what if anything they would bring on the secondary market. I expect that your best option for a sale is to put them out on ebay and see what they bring. Ebay has a habit of determining the correct price for well listed auctions.

Personally I think your best option is probably just to enjoy them for what they are and hang them on your wall somewhere if it fits the decorative style of your house.

My two cents.

This is true, I can't see spending anywhere close to that for basically a piece of art. I think i'm going to try to trade them for a nice Microtech OTF if I can. Do you think a $350 trade value would be fair? I guess worse case I could keep them and display them at my house but I want new toys! Lol, thank you for your help.

if they were a gift, I would simply keep them. You'll only get a fraction of what was paid for them if you sell them.
When you have a company like Hanwei/Paul Chen that sells functional, durable swords for cutting for around $350 it makes 440stainless wall hangers worth less.

If you can find someone willing to make the trade I think that would be fair, so long as you don't accompany the trade with grandiose tales about being able to use these genuine samurai swords to cut through volkswagon beetles, steel bars, Lynn Thompson and the like. :) Good luck.
