Paul Iseard at The Famous Sheffield Shop sent me a link to this 15 minute clip from the main Japanese TV network, reporting on a visit to Sheffield. I found it both interesting and amusing ;)

Thanks Jack! That was interesting and amuzing. Thanks for the fun watch

Interesting video, Jack! I enjoyed watching it. I exchanged a few emails with Paul a while back when I ordered my first Lambsfoot, so it was nice to see him here in a video (from Japan, of all places!) talking about knives. I also enjoyed the glimpse into the world of a Sheffield cutler (which was doubly interesting because I just finished viewing the photos from A. Wright's you posted today).

When the video first started, I decided to test out YouTube's closed caption function. I didn't really expect it to translate from Japanese (it doesn't), but the results were certainly amusing. :D

Thoroughly enjoyed that! Nice one Jack.

And -

Great translations Barrett, that cracked me up!:D:thumbup:

Learning English is one thing -speaking to railway employees from Nottingham is quite another it would seem.I like how the railway guys ,the Japanese film crew and the old lady were the only ones in the train-1st class carriage by the look.I honestly expected the old lady to tell him that her brother died on the Burma railway and smack him with her brolly. She was a steel city woman with a steely resolve.
My Mum is dragging my Dad back to Nottingham (my home town) in May. Wonder if i can talk them into making the trip to the Sheffield shop and get me a knice souvenir:)

Thanks for the link Jack

Those closed captions are hilarious Barrett! :D Well done :)

I'd be happy to show your folks around Steel City Meako

I'm glad y'all enjoyed the captions as much as I did. :) Best I could tell, YouTube's CC function was trying to subtitle the Japanese as if it were English. I was all complete nonsense, but some of it was quite good! :D

I also meant to comment on some of Paul's old collectibles he showed off, which I found quite interesting. I particularly liked the nesting fork and knife set. I have a much more modern version of the same sort of thing I used to take camping.

With people wandering into his shop and offering to sell him knives, Paul is in an enviable position! :) He has some lovely old knives, I have handled that Slot Knife myself. Here's a few pics I managed to find out

That means a lot to me JB-thanks .

Dad is in his 8th decade now and walking is a chore for him. He is slower than a snail in a patch of glue and creaks and groans like a stately home in a storm.
Mum on the other hand has more stamina than team of Huskies and would happily walk from Nottingham to Sheffield in the rain, spend 4 days walking round looking for the shop with the address written down only to return empty handed because she couldn't find it.
Second thoughts I won't ask them:o

Thank you for posting the video Jack.

I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Barrett, the translation cracked me up. LOL.

I would love to be able to visit the shop in the future.

Any time mate :) Your folks sound like mine were in their old age. I hope they enjoy their trip to Nottingham anyway :)

Enjoyed the video, thanks Jack. In fact today, I placed an order with The Famous Sheffield Shop for a couple of items, will post pictures when they arrive.
