Looking online wakizashi style knives seem to all be made in China, is there a Japanese maker that is reputable, they can be purchased, is there some weird law Japanese made fighting knives are not sold in the US

Did you mean a Tanto blade knife?

Because a Wakizashi is a sword.
I tanto knife Japanese made would be cool, the Wakizashi is the shorter sword I believe either way hard to find one Japanese made seems like they all come from China or India…

You are going to dramaticaly increase your budget for a made in Japan sword. $50 will only get you a Hot Topic style one suitable for cosplay and wall hanging.

You can get one buy going to some specialized dealers. The traditional ones will be expensive because they have to made by the traditional way (including method and materials, which is very inefficient compare to modern day tech they have), get certified and the smiths (also need to get certified) are only allowed to make a number of them.

Well, the number of blades available is low, while the desire to own is high, therefore the price is quite high.

The mass production ones are usually considered training blade and "not real", which can be found, again, on some specialized sites.
