Hi all,

I've been wondering what the difference are in Darrels knives. Some say HTM. some say Gun Hammer, some say HTM Gun Hammer. I think I saw a knife or knives that said AXD too.

I'm totally confused about what all these designations mean.

Also, does anyone have an opinion on the difference between a bearing pivot compared to Darrels knives without it? Any preferences or opinions are welcomed.

Also your opinions on his a/o flippers compared to the manual flipper knives. Thanks! :)

HTM are his midtech knives that are still hand made in his shop. Gun Hammer, AXD Maxx, etc are all model name designations. The knives not preceded by HTM are all customs.

My current knife does not have a bearing system. It's fine and flips out with such minimal effort you'd sooner think it had an assisted mechanism. However, bearings are just that much better IMO. All the knives I've handled with a bearing system have no blade play and flip out so smoothly and effortlessly, yet the detent makes certain they won't deploy in an untimely fashion like in your pants pocket.

I always thought if you got a flipper, there was no need for an assisted mechanism. With that said though, Darrel's a/o system is pretty robust. He and Blackie Collins designed the system.

Thanks for the help harkamus. I'm waiting patiently for a model that Darrel said was coming out but he didn't say when. It's an HTM, flipper and has a frame lock that I think isn't like the traditional kind (exposed) but is hidden under the scale.

I only have one large a/o flipper the ZT 0301 and it's as fast or faster than a switchblade. Turn your wrist on deployment and it slams open so fast that it feels like you might break something. Love that speed! :D

One feature I don't think I'd like is having an aluminum handle as opposed to just a ti lock side and a g-10 scale on the other, like the ZT 0300 series or Hinderers. Just doesn't seem like it would feel good. I suppose you'd just have to buy it to try it. :(

The framelock with the lock hidden under a scale is news even to me. I have not heard anything about this. I'm piqued needless to say being that I am not a fan of framelocks. This "hidden" framelock sounds interesting.

An a/o flipper seems redundant to me, but I have had an 0350 at one point and know the feeling. It is impressive, if only on a primitive level. Haha. "Metal thunk! Me like thunk!"

The HTM I have now does have aluminum scales and they've held up nicely. The custom Gunny I'm getting will have titanium handles, bead blasted. It will also have a 4 inch non-recurved bowie blade in Uddeholm Elmax steel.

What HTM do you have now? What's the lock set-up and stuff - do tell please. :)

I love the aluminum scales on my Gunhammer and I have quite a few Ti frame locks. Try to put your hands on one.
