Just came to my door at noon hour direct from Oz way down under. Jason Cutter had posted this an a few other knives on BF>Exchange>maker>FB a few weeks ago. The name and the knife and its looks and construction intrigued me so I wrote to Jason and ordered the knife. Looked it over, played with it and took it to the light tent and the editing suite.
Jason calls this the Copperhead IV Firestorm. Thought this to be kewl as my son is a Toronto Firefighter and his lady is named Gale so they use the nick of Firestormz.
The knife is 9" OAL with a 4 1/8" blade of forged 1095 finished to a handrubbed 2000 grit flat grind with convex edge with lovely temper line. Beautiful polish and very sharp.
It does not stop there though. Jason has added a black micarta guard and of course this keeps things lighter and is quite unique. Then on to the handle of Spalted Box Elder. WOW!! the colors in this wood are remarkable. See the photos for the wonderful grain and reds, yellows and browns. I have never seen red like this in wood before. Looks like blood. The red and white spacers are perfect.
But he does not stop there. Look to the reverse side and you will see the dot jigging which covers the wood between the lines plus the micarta guard for making a more secure and firm grip with the thumb while on the obverse side, only the space between the spacers is done for a better finger grip. A real nice touch.
Far from being done though, Jason added an imbedded brilliantly colored Australian Opal and more dot jigging at the rear of the handle.
Finally, he fancied up the exposed tang area from the butt of the handle so it looks very smart. Too often this area is forgotten and can detract from another wonderful knife. This one is just terrific.
Not only did Jason do a great job with the knife itself, but he has created an artistic belt sheath with snake inlay.
All in all this is one extremely fine knife and will be fun to play with and find a well deserved spot in my collection.
