I was taken by Lorien's "Sooke Mtn. Chopper" so in talking to Jason I got one ordered with a couple revisions. I only asked that it be a little longer and that it have a forward lanyard hole...

This is the result... What a performer. I've had it out chopping up some windfall the last couple weekends and it just bites hard. It's a real pleasure to use and the radically dropped tip is great for the "flick" cut of smaller branches.

Blade is about 9 3/4" from tip to scales. I think it's a design that some will love and some will not... I am in the camp of the former and all the more so after using it.

I am not too far from Sooke Mtn. but I live on the backside of "Mt. Work". Perhaps an appropriate change of title for this knife... ;):)

Awesome chopper! Man, that beast looks like it's all about serious work.

Dang! That's a sweet blade. At first I couldn't figure out what I like about it. It's quite different than most choppers that I've seen but I think that is exactly the reason I like it. Great job! Jason is an amazing artist.

'Mt. Work Chopper':D

It shares genetic composition, but like our micro climates on the island, it is the same and different than the SMC.

I was just thinking about you today Stuart, wondering how you're liking you MWC. I spent around four hour in the bush today and finally linked up two trails I've been trying to link forever. What started out as a reroute turned into about a kilometer long connector!

I brought the SMC and my Takeda, and pound for pound the SMC kicks ass. The Takeda has more reach but the SMC has...

mojo.

Yours is sick, I'd love to swing it around for awhile!

Whata monster

Look at that wasp tapered tang

Jason does it all spot on from dress to bush monster

Truly bad ass blade from what I believe to be one of the very greats

I have to admit that when I first opened the package I was a little shocked. I thought I had an idea of what a Jason Knight "should" look like and this wasn't it. :)

I quickly took a liking to it's unique shape and as I use it more and more it's becoming a part of me. I think Jason absolutely nailed this design for me.
Speaking with him on the phone, he told me he had a few of them made but figured I might like this one... Well for only having spoken a handful of times he certainly understood what I like.

Thanks Jason for a truly fantastic knife.

Thanks for the words guys, glad you like it too... I am thrilled with this one.

@ Lorien... Thanks for starting the ball rolling on this project. I have a couple other pieces inbound then I can head out to Sooke for a little chop-chop. :D

It sure looks fierce and IMHO it should perform well as a chopper
Congrats to you and to Lorien as well

... it should perform well as a chopper...

Let me assure you it performs admirably. :) With the tapered tang, the weight is centered about 2" in front of the handle. Most light tasks, say around 1" -1.5" dia. usually require only two hits. One on each side. With the tip, light branches fall off with no sense of resistance.

This afternoon, for an experiment, I sunk a stick about 4' high and about 1.5"-2" in diameter into the ground just enough to stay vertical.
I cut through it in one stroke and left the bottom half standing.

It's an amazing cutter.:D

Very nice knife Stuart !
I really like this blade shape. Does it come with a sheath ?
Jason's work is impressive.....everytime.

I'm looking forward to seeing the sheath you'll make for this one, Stuart.

I did get a sheath for it from Jason. With all the other sheaths I am making I have very little time to make one for myself. Jason chose a crossdraw style which I modified with a removable loop so I can also carry it the standard way.

I will likely make a custom one that allows me to attach an over-the-shoulder style carry rig. I'll make it a little fancy too just for fun. :)
