I do not own a Jay Fisher knife- yet. I have thoroughly read Jay fisher's web site now and believe that his work would be every bit worth the investment. When i first saw his knives on his website I was not completely into the "look" of his work- probably because it is so unique. However his wealth of knowledge and experience as a maker kept me interested in reading. I came to realize that all of the aspects of his designs are intended to be functional and serve a particular purpose- wether it be to improve strength, add durability, improve grip, or give a knife artistic value. His knives can only be fully admired for their form once you understand the reasons behind why they look the way they do. So, keeping that in mind- I wouldn't feel like i need to "try before i buy" only because i can SEE through viewing his many images and reading so many of his clients testimonies regarding balance, fit, finish ect that Jay has given his best effort to allow you to experience his knives all except for actually holding them!- something that allot of makers would not do as thoroughly as he has. These are my reflections on Jay Fishers knives but just to remark on the original question. If you take the time to read and research and understand what you are thinking of spending your hard earned money on then it should be clear before you go ahead with a purchase wether or not what you are buying will be "junk" or not. And in saying this- anyone who sells a product and cannot show you this is not really doing their part (speaking of significant purchases here). BKH i hope this will encourage you and not offend you.
