I ordered a JB saddlehorn from a purveyor a couple months back. I carried the knife a few times loosely in the pocket but never alongside loose change or anything that could damage the knife.

Then one day I look at the knife in natural light and notice a crack near a pin that seems to go deep inside the bone. Reminded me of a fish scale. Could be a major problem down the road. Never once dropped the knife either…

I contact the purveyor and he's happy to direct me to Mr. Moore. He calls Mr. Moore to let him know i'll be mailing-off the knife. So I mail the knife to Mr. Moore and he contacts me on the phone this morning. As a Californian that hasn't lived in the south since I was in the Army, his southern drawl caught me off guard at first. :D Man what a nice guy to talk with! He's decided to make me another knife altogether. This time out of green linen micarta. ;)

Jim's been nothing but a gentleman the few times I've had occasion to speak with him.

Well done, Jim!

Always nice to hear stories like that.

Green linen micarta saddlehorn sounds nice. Hope you'll show it here when it arrives. :)

Wish all knife makers were the same when it came to customer service.

I had a knife made by a good maker. Noticed a crack in the stag, also by the pin. Called and then sent it back to the maker. He put some glue on it and sent it back to me. Bit surprised by this but let it go.

Crack reappeared and became more noticeable and so i asked him about sending it back and fixing. He confirmed he would but no sorry or offer to pay for my shipping again. Not a totally happy experience given the fact that i had purchased the knife directly from him and the problem occurred in less than 6 months with almost no carry time.

Will see what happens.
