I was bored and began to experiment while making a tanto and wanted to know if I used heat resistant jb weld putty, would I still manage to pull off a hamon?

You can buy a couple of pounds of satanite for what high temp JB weld costs. It'll work much better.

Satanite is the only clay I have used I like. Some like Rutlands, but it is too thick for my taste.

I wash coat the blade with a thin coat of satanite ( thin as light cream or a melted milkshake)...dry the blade …. and coat the spine and ashi with satanite at the consistency of sour cream. The spine layer is only about 1/16" thick. 1/8" is way too thick.
