Did spyderco ever improve the action on the JD Smiths? I had one and loved it, but ended up selling it because the action was tough enough that I didnt really consider it a one handed knife.

I'm curious as well. I really liked the design, but hated the action. I remember reading that Sal and Co were in the process of imrpovements and the new knife should be out soon. That was several months ago.

Yes, the knife has been updated. The blade is now VG-10 and there seems to be a tighter fit between the blade and the blade stop. The changes were not significant enough for me to buy the update. (I have the original production model). However, for someone considering a first time purchase of a JD Smith, I recommend buying the update with the VG-10 steeled blade. I still see some internet dealers listing the original version at their sites--avoid the temptation to buy them unless you are getting a "giveaway" price on the older model.

As posted in the past, I think the knife should be built with a VG-10 blade, double liners, and titanium scales. Winner! :D

IMO, the action on the update did not seem obviously smoother than the original version (i.e., it felt the same to me). Now, if it were to be built with dual ss liners and teflon washers, then that would be some smooth cycling knife.
