JD summer build off knife
the JD forum challenges its maker now and then to make something cool and i hope that i score well with this blade

the Ti is a nice blue but it has a bit of oil on it so it looks a bit off color in a few of the pictures
specs are 8 inch of edge and just over 13.5 inch over all
52100 blade that i hand forged (2nd forged blade ever) finished to 600 grit hand sand then light buffed
blue anodized Ti guard and spacer with stabilized quilted maple spacer and main
SS pin its light and fast

things i think i might change next time are
longer blade
and find some 1/8 inch Ti pin stock

please feel free to give any and all feedback good and bad are both welcome

I'm not particularly crazy about the handle shape from a aesthetic prospective, but I bet it feels good in the hand.
A long clip would probably enhance the blade profile, but a nice piece overall.
Fit/finish seems to be very nice.

I think the blade should be a little wider. If you make it linger, then for sure it will need to be wider. I really like the guard and spacer. The way the handle goes in and then flairs out at the butt doesn't make for an appealing aesthetic. Especially with the flat sides in the rear area.

for sure if i was to run this blade in the 10inch range it would have to be taller edge to spine

so far as the handle while its great in hand for thrusting and pointing i will keep my eyes open for more thoughts on fighter style handles

i can say tho that the Ti was a PITA to work with and keep close fit

I love the contrast of the blue with the light maple - very striking. About all would wish for is maybe a wider blade - the length is fine.

im hearing a bunch of wider is better but how wide
like the oval gaurd below it ?

this brings me to my next? how wide would a 10 inch bowie need to be

the fighter is 1.25 wide and the oval guard is only a bit more then that at 1 and 3/8 inch

would i be looking at 2inch tall for a 10 inch bowie ?to keep things looking right ?
