Jeff,

I know you have covered this before, but if you don't mind getting into it....

What folder(s) do you always have with you as a survival blade?

What do you carry in your vest?

Do the contests vary at all?

Anyone else have thoughts on this?

Hi Marion,

Jeff wrote about his Survival vest and the contents of it in a monthly issue of the American Survival Guide I think it was in the August issue.
While in the US in July I bought the July, August and at the end of my vacation the September issue.

Cheers from Holland,

Marion, now now that I'm back on my feet after a round with the 3rd world flu (requiring a load of Cipro and Oral rehydration salts to get back in gear), I will attempt to make a run at your question.

My vest changes depending on the operation but a few things remain the same. The current vest I am using is a ripstop nylon vest made by Sierra Designs. Just started using this one and I like it so far.

I always carry a small blue LED ASP light attached to the outside - Surefire with spare batteries - a couple of non-lubricated condoms - fishing kit consisting of dental floss, a couple of lead weights and 4 small hooks - small first aid kit and Sawyers Extractor - GI poncho - contractor grade trash bag - at least 20 feet of paracord - compass - water purification - firesteel and bic lighter - extra pack of cigarettes - pencil and waterproof pad - small SAK - small roll of brass wire - small mirror, usually a signal type mirror - one MRE field stripped for packaging - bandana - copy (not original) of passport, drivers license and International Association for Medical Assistance book in a waterproof bag - extra cash in American and local currency - maps depending on the location.

This sounds like a lot but its not that heavy and has damn sure come in handy a couple of times.

This list is off the top of me head but it's pretty accurate because I've been searched enough lately (by good and bad guys) due to some of the areas we had to operate in on this trip for the film crew.

Larger knives change depending on the mission and some of the contents will also change. The vest stays with me at ALL times regardless of what I'm doing. Airport security hates me. It's also used as a pillow at night on the ground so if I have to bug out I have everything I need to survive and get across the border if necessary.

Hope this answers your question but remember that the vest contents will change somewhat depending on the climate and what you're doing there.

Jeff
