Jeff,

Almost a year ago you commented in this thread that Flagyl (Metronidazole) was a treatment for getting a bad dose of water, without treating it, etc.

Have you been advised as to any reactions to that or other Rx medications and Iodine-based water purification tablets (Potable Aqua Brand) and the other water purification tablets like Katadyn's Micro-Pur?

The reason I ask is, you could get contaminated water or items, or falling into the wrong puddle! You don't necessarily have to drink bad water for lack of treating it, but if you were exposed and sick and took Flagyl, would there be any problems with these water purification tablets?

I'm not sure I understand your question.

Flagyl is what they give you to cure Giardia. It's not to treat water.

I know that! Hahaha! What I am saying is, if you end up getting exposed to something nasty and you have to take Flagyl, could there be any possible reaction to drinking water that has been treated with Potable Aqua (Iodine based) or Katadyn Micro-Pur tablets? The reason I ask is, we all trust tap and well water, right? But when we're talking about even using these types of tablets correctly, we're not exactly a water processing plant, you know what I mean? Could there be some type of reaction with the Flagyl with the water purification tablets? When you are taking the Flagyl in the field, you're going to have to wash it down with water. So, if you treat the water and perhaps it is a bit strong on the Iodine side, could that cause a problem?

Another thing, my wife might have the answer to this one, can you take Immodium with Flagyl... Flagyl sometimes gives people the squats really, really bad and dehydration is something you would want to consider out in the wilds.

I don't know. Need a doctor to answer that.
