Just my opinion, but I'd like to see "Master Bates" banned in most forums, with the possible exception of "W&C" and "The Cove". It just seems to be unnecessarily inflammatory. I think inferring someone, (or something) is a "jerk-off" without actually having the nerve to come out & say so is just a recipe for trouble. So far, I've not been refered to in this way, but it would sure piss me off if I was, without anyone here really knowing anything about me.

coincidentally, I was just looking through thousands of emotions to send a replacement in, I have narrowed it down to a drooling smiley- because it is a similar reaction to the "jerkit". The little pig face is also good, and i think that the busse forum will escpecially like it :D

Not possible. It's either everywhere or nowhere. If someone is using it inappropriately, hit the report button

I think that it should be completely replaced then.

A drooling smiley that matches the rest of them would be perfect IMO.

Keep in mind, this is a site for adults, as such, you should realize that you don't have the right to not be offended, nor do you have the right to dictate what opinions others should have. If someone feels that the jerkit smiley is the best way to express their opinion, you can draw your own conclusion as to the character of the poster... but keep in mind the context of the posting itself.

Jeez, one month here and you already want stuff banned. How did we manage before December 2007

It was not my intent "to dictate the opinions others should have". I don't have a problem with someone stating their opinion, pro or con. I just think the "Jerk-it" is an under-handed way of doing it.

I'm sure you managed quite well. I just stated an opinion, and I stand by it. If others do not share that opinion, that is quite alright. I am not "The great & mighty OZ", nor do I intend to try to be. I accepted Sparks explanation & left it go at that.

I personally don't use that smilie. There are times when it is probably appropriate, but I just don't find a need for it. It can stay or go for all I care.

I don't like it and would never use it. Those who resort to it seem to be the ones who are unable to fashion a good insult with the keyboard.

Replacing it shouldn't be too big an issue, anyone could hotlink to a free smiley site or such to use it at the Cove or whatever if it were removed.

If it's ok on the general, the largest/most trafficked, I don't see why anyone feels too terribly offended in other subs. Also, it shows up every time you create a new message without quick reply, it can't be outright avoided.

But think of the children!

Although I haven't used that particular "smiley" or whatever it's called, I think you may be inferring a more malicious intent than it really represents. I interpret it to mean that something, as opposed to someone, is inconsequential or irrelevant and worthy of derision. And sometimes it is just an expression of apathy or futility. Then again :jerkit: is just .

Well, I have found the "Green Man" inflammatory on the Political Forum.

As a local culture we have agreed to voluntarily not use it; and not because of the masturbation thing, but because of the intent that often accompanies it on the Political Forum.

I have noticed that when someone new comes to the Political Forum and uses the Green Man, other forumites will politely tell him we don't use it on the Political Forum.

We always stand one breath from a general food fight on the Political Forum, and so we try to stack the deck in favor of civility whenever we can.

I've noticed people don't use the little vomit smiley on the Political Forum, although we've never discussed it.

Both of the emoticons mentioned above have appropriate uses.

If someone came to the Political Forum and used them anyway, well, then they've made their choice.

I don't believe in censorship, but, some things one talks about in the locker room, and other things one talks about around the dinner table with friends and family.

Even so, I imagine some dinner tables can get pretty randy. :)

The issue with the Green Man on the Political Forum involves using the "Green Man" as unstated "fightin' words," and has nothing to do with the Green Man's sexual preference.

If the Green Man, the Vomit Man, and the Roll Eyes Man went away tomorrow, I wouldn't miss them, but I think some people would.

Another forum on which I participate has a staggering number of emoticons.
A person could get kinda confused trying to pick one.

Ironically, I never see an emoticon used on that site.
Too many choices, maybe.
