Last Friday Jerry, Ricardo and the three gaucho makers that already are in São Paulo for the seminar - Rodrigo Sfreddo, Edson Reis and Luciano Dorneles visited my town, Tatuí, where I and Edson Vieira, my lawier and part time maker, were waiting to take them to the shop of Sr. Bíde, the old Sorocabana maker. There we also met Ariovaldo., the younger Sorocabana maker.
Unfortunatelly, as they arrived too late due to traffic problems in São Paulo, they were unable to watch Sr. Bíde forging a blade.
Later we visited Ariovaldo's shop and mine.
Here you can see some pics.
Thei first one show Sr. Bíde holding the rough forged handle of a Sorocabana.

Hey Guys
We may have to start looking out for these guys. They are really hustling down here. I have seen both some beautiful regular damascus and some mosaic. All done by hand hammer. No own here owns a trip hammer or press. They have 4 and 8 pound sledge hammers and are really motivated to make damascus. They are forging some really great intregal pieces some with intergal pommel as well as bolster. Up till recently they have used charcoal forges but gas forges are really taking off. Some of them are looking to enter the American market and should do well.

Oh, T A T U I. I was expecting a picture of a little guy saying, "DE plane! De Plane!! :)

Those knives from South America are very impressive, Anyone down near Ushuaia Argentina?

Ivan, congratulations on going full time. The site has some very nice knives shown. It is a compliment to all of you that you can do great work with minimal equipment. Interest and motivation are all that is required in this craft. All of us makers up here have decided that for some small token sent to me, a knife for instance, ya'll can just keep Fisk down there from now on. He can get fat and sassy on the good food. We can have a life without harrassment and poorly delivered jokes. take care mw

Ivan,
Just wanted to say Hello to everyone there. Sounds like you guys are having a blast. I am definitley enjoying the pictures.
Just a little warning, DO NOT listen to ml williams, he is who we often refer to as the EVIL ONE.:) Take care.

Hello

We are on the 5th day of the seminar and things are evolving quicqly over here.
Yesterday we have a lon meeting and finally set up the basis for our knifemakers association. Most of its bylaws have been based on the ABS ones. This is just teh beginning, though - there is a lot of work to be done to make it becoma a reality, and much more to make it work properly.

HJK - even though we have invited an Argentine maker, nobody from there at this seminar.

Mike - your last post is outrageus!!! On the other side... in wich knife would you be interested?

Red - Don't worry. We are taking good care of Jerry and making sure he is haveing plenty of food and all the water he needs (and he needs a lot!). Maybe, though, we will have to keep him here for a little longer (just 1 or 2 years) to make sore we are doing things right. We'll allow him to wirte now and then.

Stay tuned - I'll try to post some more pics later.

Ivan,
I look forward to more pictures. Yes he does require alot of water.
Keep him as long as you need to because I am enjoying my own little vacation.
:p for jerry

Mike,
Not always true. It takes someone that is very Pure (i.e. Me) to recognize the Evilness of an okie. :p

Hey, Red

You better find a way to keep an eye on Jerry tomorrow because I am no longer in São Paulo to do this for you.
But I promise that when I get back to São Paulo on Saturday I'll let you know everything he has benn doing!
