Jerry Fisk, knife designs

I have know Jerry for a number of years. In addition to being at the top among forged makers in artistry, he is in my opinion one of the most knowledgeable knifemakers in the history, design and usage of his knives. He makes blades that are not only great to look at, but also very functional as knives.
I believe that he was referring to the Mediterrean Dirk as one of the most copied designs out of which alot of of knives have evolved.

Here's a couple examples of Fisk Mediterranean Dirks Jim speaks of:

This is actually a beautiful German Hunting Sword, however a Mediterranean influence can definitely be seen.

And David here's Jerry's infamous Southwest Clip you spoke of.

We also see a strong Fisk influence in many of the Brazilian Smith's works.

This is my favorite Fisk design. The Rojo Grande 11 1/4 " damascus blade walrus ivory handle with engraving. It is big but very light in the hand. The handle shape gives alot of control. Jim Treacy

I have always thought the Arkansas Camp Knife was as close to perfect as a BIG knife could be. Here is a "smaller", very nice one.

It occurs to me how odd I feel, not liking damascus and generally not liking what i perceive as art knives........ David

There is always the possibility of growth...of an expansion in your understanding of what IS....and is not.

The danger of collecting the work of only one maker is that NO one maker can do it all perfectly...there is always room for improvement somewhere....and the continued study of other styles helps to increase your enjoyment of what you do like.

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

Jerry is also a pretty funny guy and is one of those makers who is always willing to help out his fellow makers.

I think that this is a nice place to post some pictures of Jerry forging
a blade in his workshop...
The pictures were shot for the 8 page section on Jerry Fisk in my second
book on custom knives, "Art and Design in Modern Custom Fixed-Blade
Knives".

Best wishes for a great new year,

Bladeandbarrel and Roger, I agree that the Arkansas Camp Knife is a great design, but the Rojo feels better in the hand because of the drop in the handle. Jim Treacy

Here's my Arkansas Camo knife.

You have a fine collection Jim, and I have to agree that the Rojo is one of THE classic patterns, and probably my favourite of Jerry's along side is SW clamshell!

Jerry's Southwest Bowies are my favorite and of course the Sendero and Gamemaster equally for there intended purposes.

Please don't forgot get about the Woojack, that is one fine knife also!:D:thumbup::thumbup::D

Theres no denying that, but I'm a sucker for the blade profile on the Rojo, as I am his Hunting sword! Just have to get one of each:D
