OH yeah! No talking for a minute, just check out what Jerry did:

Awesome knives for some very fortunate soul. The lines on the bowie are just so crisp. I like the inset shot on the lower right that gives us a look at how the swedge transitions into the spine - really nice. I've always had a thing for matched sets, and hunter / hatchet is both among the less common and also one makes a lot of sense. Which I guess is as good an illutstration as any as to why the term "common sense" is an oxymoron. An uncommonly beautiful pair here - that's for certain.

OK...I've asked myself, like anyone would, why does Jerry Fisk deserve to be designated a National Living Treasure.
After getting to know these two projects, photographing them several times to get that captured live look, I felt like I was channelling back in time. Like with that 15 1/4 in OAL bowie I thought, "If I'm a southern senator during the 1830s or thereabouts, this would be my EDC. A man needs a long blade in such times."
And that hunter and hand axe set... They're just dripping with authenticity and trippin' damascus to boot. :D Put a smile on my face!

Roger - I feel your despair. ;) Found myself coveting all three, the long bowie and the hunter/ax pair. Oh well...

Great pieces captured with excellence.
All one has to do Buddy is look at, handle and use Jerry's knives and it's evident why he holds the honor of being a "National Living Treasure".

If there were an "Ambassador" for custom knives he would be most deserving of that designation as well. Jerry has done so much to help move custom knives forward over 30 years.

I'm not big on much of anything that's a matched set, but how can anyone not absolutely love either piece in the set or the set itself, it's all so "just right". And just the right touch of engraving on the set. Whoda thunk an axe could look so purdy.

Jerry's sense of what ought to be engraved, where and how much - he gets stuff right on, in my opinion. The Bowie (purely wonderful) is a great example.

No one should be allowed to see this much great stuff at one time! I must now go rest my eyes.

Very beautiful knives and pictures!!!

One question Buddy; does the Bowie have a "chisel" type swedge?

Thanks,

David Sharp

Nice to see such quality. There are a lot of people that make knives- but not a lot of people produce art. Love the axe combo-just amazing.

Buddy,

Great photos of the Bowie and Hunter set. I saw these at Blade, Jerry is always doing super work.

Man...

Magnificent knives, captured equally worthy. Lighting: Just right.

I love that great piece of wood. It enhances the core image. PLEASE post another shot of the core image and that wood alone? SEXAY.

I'm also seeing a chisel swedge. Everything about this deserves a close inspection. :)

If that's the NLT bowie I handled at Blade, and I believe it is but the tears of awe in my eyes might have blurred my vision, then it does have a "chisel" type of swedge. Jerry was saying how fond he has become of this blade style.

I'll never forget Jerry schoolin' me on cutting free hanging rope last year, then demonstrating with a backcut using his 2010 Personal Cutter that has this style swedge. The rope fell straight down after the cut and it looked effortless (as the masters always make it look!). I was honored to have had the lesson!

I believe that handle, with the band whippin' 'round a solid hunk o' ivory, is a first for one of Jerry's bowies.

Wonderful job showing this great knife, Buddy!

You’re right Rob. Jerry is using quite a few chisel ground clips on his knives as he feels it's his strongest and most aggressive cutting clip. I believe he's putting them on about all his military blades now.
Cutting hanging 1" hemp rope with the top of a blade is very impressive and I guarantee you that the "pretty" bowie above will cut through it like it butter.
That's one of the things that has always drawn me towards Jerry's knives is that even though he makes some of the prettiest "Art Knives" out there, they will preform to the highest degree.

Both this fighting bowie and boot knife that Jerry made me a few years ago have chisel ground clips.

It might not translate too well in this snapshot from Blade, but the driftwood display stand well suited the character of the knife i thought. Jerry mentioned something about the rarity of green ivory, i recall.

Naw, man, I flattened the layers and deleted all prior versions (for space and organization) - but...

I was just foolin' around on this one, which came from the core image for the final at the top, thinking it would make a nice standard small business card type presentation that lots of makers use. Jerry doesn't need it but I considered using it for what I do. Thanks guys, for adding your comments and pics.

^^ An excellent display.

Thanks for looking. I understand. I chuck the worked-over files ASAP, too. :)

Fantastic to say the least

I am impressed with the chisel ground swedge and love that Jerry mixes performance with beauty in his knives
