This was easily the most popular and sought after knife at the Fisk Micro-Show/Scoundrels & Scalawags Symposium recently. That's saying somthin' since all 4 makers brought their AAA game (Fisk, JR Cook, Shawn McIntyre and Terry Vandeventer).

This beautiful Gentleman's folder is based on Jerry's "Old Thorny" pattern. It's an attractive and very functional pattern that goes back around 14-15 years in Jerry's career and that's about how long Jerry has personally carried his own Old Thorny folder.

Here we have a high-end lock-back version with Jerry's forged ladder pattern damascus blade of 2 3/4 in., his deep-relief engraving with 24 kt gold inlay accents, stainless steel bolster/guard. OAL is 6 1/2 in. The action is smooth and in the closed position resists accidental opening in one's pocket. Not an issue anyway in this case since Paul Long has provided an excellent little pouch sheath for belt carry.

However, the extra buzz was largely related to the spectacular fossil mammoth ivory. I have tried to render the correct colors and depth in the ivory so the viewer sees exactly what they'd see examining the knife under good light. In my estimation the photograph matches the actual knife very closely. So, what I'm saying is this fossil ivory is exceptionally desirable. Per Jerry, "It is the only piece colored up like that I have ever ran across. Its been in the stock pile for quite a few years and I thought it was time to put it on something nice."

It sold as did all the knives at the micro-show by drawing and the dude who was drawn for it was super lucky. He's a friend of mine so I am both jealous of and happy for him. Most everybody else was just plain jealous.

WOW

My kind of knife! What a beauty! And that ivory is, indeed, spectacular. This folder looks "old fashioned", or "old school". Lockback, pinned construction...

Impressive.

Kind regards,

Jos

Out of this world! A really fantastic piece of ivory and great looking knife. Photograph is wonderful. Thanks Buddy!

Fantastic piece. For me, the touch of orange in the scales is what really pops.

Hopefully there is more of that mammoth ivory out there.

Thanks for sharing these pics. It helps others who won't likely ever have a chance to attend the great knife shows.

Buddy,

In my opinion you are right about that. Jerry hit a home run with this one.

You did a super job of photographing a very beautiful knife.

The new owner got something special with that knife.

WOW is right!! Some incredible folders lately!

The "Scary folder" and this are right at the top.

I have never seen ivory in those colors! Amazing piece, one that I would be proud to own and show but scared to carry.........

You're right Buddy in that this is an exceptional piece of ivory and Jerry aligned the color change in just the right spot. The combination of his workmanship and the outstanding ivory make for quite a package.

Thanks for posting.

I'll bet the 'scratching' engraving Jerry cut on the LH side was inspired by the pattern in the ivory.

SOoooooo creamy and dreamy. The composition and lighting is bold and clear. Perfect.

Good on ya!

Beautiful as expected! But can somebody tell why the back lock release is not squared? I am sure it is purposeful, perhaps specifically for right-handed users? Another reason? Jerry is truly incredible.

Thanks guys. I need to dig around in the material boxes more often. While finding this ivory I also found a set of gold lip pearl scales big enough to make hunting knife handles out of and marked $40.00. Must have bought that awhile back. I found stuff I forgot about buying like pertified Dinosaur egg and other stuff so I may make a few more folders.
Jeff, you are right, I am right handled and close my folders with the side up, not the top up so I am prone to make it like this, the owner is right handed it also so I made it as I would want it myself.

Very nice. That ivory almost looks like malachite.

Thanks, Jerry! The asymmetry caught my eye and I just wanted to know what the purpose was. I never thought of this but would make closing more comfortable and natural feeling. That's a nice touch and really a beautiful knife.
