Just curious how the wood handles hold up on users? Is the wood stabilized, moisture proof and meant to be used? I know the synthetics will be more durable, but wood has worked well for hundreds of years on knives and looks better. Does the warranty cover the handles on the customs? User pics encouraged.

I haven't experienced the stabilized wood. Any natural material will expand and contract with the weather though

I'm sure it would hold up just fine. With that being said if I am lucky enough to score a blade with those handles it may be used (because I use them all) but definitely not abused for the following reasons. People that buy a knife with handles made from that maple are buying it because they are huge Busse fans and are buying something that is very special to the man himself and even if they did warranty it once that home grown Busse maple is gone it's gone. They may be able to replace the handle with something but if that's what you wanted you could have just ordered some pretty wood handles from the custom shop. To me these knives will have some sentimental value so if I am that lucky I'll use mine carefully if at all.

Maple can (depending on which species) be a very durable wood. Ever hear of rock maple? It's called that for a reason. IIRC, it's really sugar maple, it can be extremely dense, work bench tops are made from it and are very desired among woodwork artists.

My Zilla in stabilized redwood Burl ( granted, not from Busse, but proffesionally stabilized wood none the less) and it has stood up to a ridiculous amount of chopping and use and hasn't shifted, cracked, shrunk. As rock solid as the day I installed them.

AFAIK, the natural handle materials are not warrantied by the shop as they can't warranty what they haven't produced (being made by nature)…. makes sense to me…. :thumb up: :)

That being said, I'm very interested in Jerry's wood also and can't wait to get some of it in hand, on a knife handle of course…. ;) :D

Ha-ha :)
As you see I haven't :)
Love stabilized maple on my TG.
