Since joining this forum I have become very interested in the 'Jersey' Pattern. New ones can be bought here but I do not see old ones around. Maybe you Americans loved them so much in the old days you kept them all there.

It's a very attractive style with some nice variations. I am not a fan of straight hafts but must say they do suit the Jersey. I like the look of the rounded lugs that some have. In many cases the face seems much flatter than I am used to. I really like the 'lead-in' that a round face gives on impact and wonder how these 'Jerseys' perform on big timber.

I would like to hear some comments from you 'Axe-Heads'. C'mon tell me why I should get one...or two or...

regards...Frank

I like them too Frank, have never seen one here in the colony ;-)) Thinking about a council.

Best regards

I bought one just so I'd have at least one wide-bitted softwood axe. There's lots of cedar and alder around here.

I also think that the relatively straight bit on this axe might do a nice job of scoring timbers for hewing with the broad axe. I need to get this one hung.

And you should get one of two or..... because they will keep nagging at you until you do.

Here's one for you Frank, they're fun to modify as well as use

I make my own handles, this one is Curly Pecan (Hickory)

Mulit purpose for splitting firewood or choke up on the handle and use it like a hatchet

I have a Jersey. It busts out chips of green wood like nobody's business. None of this notch high, notch low, split between; every stroke sends a chip flying.
Yeah, get one or more.

CCF That is very interesting. Did you cut that down from a larger axe? Beautiful haft Man. I don't make any but I do flatten the sides sometimes like this one of yours. I find this very pleasing to the eye and I bet she feels great in the hands also. Thanks for sharing.

yeah frank, like porch said "those chips fly like nobodys buisness"... they just have 'the right feel' to them. their well balanced IMO... plus they have a long bit that just cuts right into the wood and chips go aflyin' :D
i didnt have time today, but im going to post pics on this thread of another 4 lb plumb jersey that i have... that sucker has a 6" bit  its one i got a while back in darn near 'mint' condition with original handle (36" fawns foot) and all...

and yes, you do need one or two or three ;)

Frank i did indeed cut it down from a larger axe,it can be use single handed or double for bigger stuff.Still has the same cutting surface as a new one would but less weight now
