I recently added a Jess Horn C27 to my collection. This knife is PERFECT. I can't find a flaw in it anywhere. I would like to know how many were made. An old catalog I have says that the C27 is, "Numbered and limited in production....". How were they numbered? I can't find a number on mine anywhere. I would appreciate any info on this knife.

Thanks,
Paul

I also have one and it was the sharpest factory knife right out of the box I own. I can't find any flaws in it what so ever. I know AG Russell was and still does sell numbered versions in different micarta colors and flat ground. I still look at it and marvel at the workmanship on it.

Strider,
Thanks for the reply. I guess I should have specified, but I am talking about the first Horn model with the jigged bone handle slabs, and no hole in the blade. The model you are referring too is a great knife also and I was sorry to see it leave production.

I have the fully serrated version and its probably my favorite Spyderco. Its very classy and the clip is by far the best from a factory. It would've been the best "airline" knife around except for the serrations. Mine doesn't have a # either and its got a couple of flaws. For one the blade has quite a bit of lateral wobble when locked and theres a small divot at the base of the blade (bought it new that way--should've looked at it closer considering what it cost). Those things aside I wish Spyderco made an enlarged version of it. It would be great w/a 3" or greater blade. I wouldn't mind picking up the plain edge version either. Production couldn't have been that great since even when they were out orignally they weren't all that common, must've been the price.

Paul,
Great thread! Being a BIG Spyderco fan of many years, I didn't know what I was missing until I was lucky enough to aquire this knife just a few months ago, (I purchased a plain edge). It is the closet-to-a-custom production knife I have ever seen! In fact for my money it is more "custom" than a lot of custom knives out there. The fit and finish is impeccable and lock-up is rock solid. The jigged bone is the prettiest I have ever seen. Even the inside of the liners and spine are polished. Hell, Jess Horn himself used to proudly advertise it on his Website. Sal alluded to it in a post awhile back that he thought they, (Spyderco), had matched Jess' quality with it and believe me they did. Great job Sal and crew! Yeah, this one is a real keeper and a wonder to behold. The price kept people away but if they only knew what they would have received for their money, they would have snapped them up. Thanks for the post Paul. It made me dig this knife out again and marvel at just how good this thing is.

Yeah, I am in awe of this knife. Mine is the plain edge version. I really am struggling over whether to carry it or not. I like it so much that I may try to find another one so that I can keep one and carry the other. Custom quality indeed. I've been getting it out of the zipper case and admiring it at least once a day since I got it. I tried showing it to a nonknife friend who did not seem impressed. It would be nice if Spyderco would bring out a knife in this quality range every few years or so. I don't think it was much of a financial success though. Does any one know what the original manufacturer's suggested retail price was?

Paul,
Sal would know for sure but I seem to remember it was around the $450.00 range, (MSRP). Knife Center still shows an old ad that lists it for $295.00. It says "stag handle" but I've never seen or heard of a stag handle version but again, Sal might want to respond. I do remember when dealers had them and they usually went in the $300.00 range.

Hi Paul,

How is Ricky doing? Tell him I miss him and treat him nice, won't you?

Ricky misses you terribly Gary, but I'm treating him right! You can come visit whenever you want to.

I appreciate Sal chiming in with the MSRP, but I would really like to know how many of these gems were produced. Can somebody please give me a rough figure? There can't be too many of them out there (or they are all sitting snuggly in their Spyderco zipper cases in collections). Sal, Danelle, Michelle, Joyce, Vince, Owen, anybody?

I would also like to know which shop this knife came out of.

Thanks,
Paul

I had a hard time finding out exactly how many were made, closest I can find is around 675...Could be a few more, but not many...
Sorry I can't be more accurate here!
Danelle
