Looking for professional feedback on this Jess Horn I picked up. I confirmed it is an early Jess Horn slipjoint. Can anyone confirm age and value? I have done quite a bit of research before coming here. No luck on his older slipjoints.

All I know is you can't get better than a Jess Horn. Looks like pitting on the blade? If so, and it were mine, I would carry it and use it with joy! Talk to one of the custom knife dealers about it's value if you want to sell it. Meanwhile, I hope you can appreciate it for the true masterpiece that it is!

I'm no expert on Jess Horn, but a website that I check frequently shows at least 2 Jess Horn knives with that older Tang Stamp. They are serialized #84 and #153, priced at $1,595 and $1,700. There's a lot more to look at. I didn't see any date info on the few I looked at.
I've actually found knives listed there (not Horn) that I purchased elsewhere, that had passed through this site earlier.
I'll send you the link.
Congrats on a nice knife! If it's used I'd use it myself.

thank you. It doesn’t appear used, or lightly, but does have some spotting on the blade

NO ONE has sold more Jess Horn knives than Paul Shindler at KnifeLegends.com. I know because I have photographed 150 of them for him since 2004.

He will answer honestly. The pitting will affect value DEEPLY. That's unfortunate. It would NOT affect usage or ownership pride.

Good for you.

I don't much about Jess Horn knives other than I can only afford Spyderco versions :). However that knife looks used to me, scratches on bolster, signs of open/close wear on the tang, pivot pin shows in bolster.

Yup also looks unevenly sharpened, although hard to tell on my phone. Use that beauty and pass it down as an heirloom!

For this condition, I would say ~1K max. I can see this knife was not sharpened properly. Some scratches on the blade ruin the satin finish. Scratches on the bolster should be removed easily.
