I've been moderately vocal about not having much use for knives with slippery handles. I may not have said that often I really like the looks of SS handles. But, appearances are worth little if you can't hold onto your knife at important times.
Then, last night, looking thru my AG Russell catalog, saw the SS Jess Horn. I fell in love! I am sure it is the sleekness of the knife that gets to me so much. Both the blade and the handle appear to be so much thinner and "streamlined" than any other Spyderco, except maybe the Police, which is larger than I want by far.
Does anyone have experience with the SS Jess Horn? If so, could you please tell me some about your experiences with/feelings about the knife? Is the point as delicate and prone to breakage as some other pointy Spydercos seem to be? Can you tell me what other steels were used in other handle models?
In the picture it appears to be tip up -- great! Can it be moved from one to the other? Doesn't appear to be ambidextrous.
Also, I'm curious about the effects of engraving on SS handles. Does it ever give one enough purchase so that the handles don't feel slick? Has anyone ever checkered their SS handles? If so, how much did it cost? And where did you get it done if you didn't do it yourself?
This knife looks so slim, I can help but wonder if it is stout enough for an emergency self defense role? Or would one do better to throw it at an attacker?
Thanks in advance for any help with this.
