Jess Horn

I wish I could afford one to have a closer look. I've seen a few beauties in recent months.

I looked in Ebay and only found spyderco models, not the real deal. When I first started collecting it was customs, and I wish I had bought one years ago.

The only ones I have are several of the AG Russell Jess Horn collabs made about 1997/1998 by Moki in Japan -- really sweet knives. AG has said that these were some of the finest production versions of a custom knife ever made -- and he said that long after he had completely sold out of them. But I'm afraid I come up many $,$$$ short of getting the real thing. I especially love seeing his pure traditional slippies -- Knife Legends actually had a full matching set of his sowbellies a while back - four of them in matching antique Remington bone - a 2 blade, a 3 blade, a 4 blade, and a 5 blade - totally awesome to see. Ah, here's the picture in their archives: http://www.knifelegends.com/images/Horn_SowbellyGrp-w.jpg

John Hanlon has a couple of really nice (read expensive) ones on his Knife Legends website. You may want to look at those. (Have a bib handy.)

Do you have a link Blues? Nice sowbellies zerogee. The jigging is unbelievable. Is Jess Horn still with us? The last time I had my head buried in a Knives Illustrated he was.I have been out of touch for years.

I see alot of Horns' knives on the market, but never hear of anyone buying, owning or even talking about them. He seems to be highly respected, rarely collected. Does someone have an educated opinion of his work? If he's good - why? I'm just asking out of a desire to understand

Thanx,
Mike

I never went off the edge and dared to purchase the real thing. But the blade profiles & overall look & feel (by sight of course),I was attracted to
Enough to dabble in some fine productions made in his style

More recently, from the AG Russell Collectors Club, the American made folding boot knife
Linerless & for what I spent, one of the coolest knives I've owned.Light strong & sharp
The handle has an almost "saddlehorn" style & ask any slipjoint pro,the saddlehorn is a great knife that "hangs on " in your hand ATS-34 great steel & sharp, too

I have three of the Spyderco collabs, and have carried one of them extensively - it's a fine knife.

Very similar to the AG russell one shown above.

His folding boot knife was my all time favorite for years. Thanks for sharing.
Jess Horns designs were truely Traditional Tactical. The best of both.
