Found this sander on craigslist and am wondering if it is a decent setup for knife work. I am working with a little craftsman 1x30 right now. It works kind of but is very limited. Not sure howmuch better this will be but looks like it is a little more versatile for this kind of work. Thanks for your opinions.

what size of belts are we looking at? how is the tracking? it looks pretty good, but if the belts are weird, then it isn't going to be worth it.

It just says 6: disk and 3" belt. I will maybe shoot him an email tomorrow and ask a few questions. I guess if it tracks good and operates fine it wouldnt be to bad a deal I assume. Thanks for checking it out.

I've used those

it s either 2x42, or 2x48

The 48's are more expensive

I say offer 50 and settle on 75 and I'd buy that.

If you can put a pulley on the opposite side an do a slow down jack shaft like in the $500 knife shop youtube videos - it could be really useful.

Not sure if you ever bought it but from what I see there is a $50 grinder with a Multitool attachment which runs about $250 on its own. Must be a pissed off wife throwing out stuff. Good find

Should have but didnt get to the person in time, ahh well. I didnt even know what that multitool was until I was looking at some knife making videos and saw mention of it so checked it out.

Ive had bad luck on CL lately lol. I ended up just getting a craftsman 2x42 at sears which is the 1/3 hp version right. Well got it home and made sure everything works great, started doing some mods to it like ceramic tile platen and so on. Well like 3 days after I got it there was the 1hp version on CL for about $50 cheaper.
