jewelry commissions

Guy I know is getting married and wants to be involved somehow. I recommended that he design the wedding set seeing how him and his wife were leaning toward some tricked-out Ti ideas. I know BladeGallery has a list of jewelry makers but I was wondering if anyone knew of any knife makers that take jewelry commissions, just so he has more options.

Thanks,
Eric

Many knife makers do jewelry too. And you will be very surprised at the pricing because jewelry store jewelry is VERY high mark-up stuff.

So, you can buy a very nice production folder for $100 retail. But a custom may cost $400. But, in jewelry, the markup on retail is so high that custom-made is price-competive with retail.

The problems are: 1) delicate work. Most knife makers -- there are exceptions -- are not set up to do the kinds of delicate soldering and so forth tha some styles of jewlery requires. 2) design. Many knife makers have very -- how shall we say it? -- masculine design paradigms and may not be able to do a wedding set that will please the bride.
