Where can I locate some of this good stuff for my strop? What are some of the brand names, and do any knife retailers happen to sell it? All info appreciated. Thanks Jeff.

Lee Valley tools,www.leevalley.com, has excellent green "rouge". Sears (Crapsman) also sells buffing compound including rouge.

"jewelers rouge" is not properly speaking not just a metal polish or a buffing compound, but a specific item; extremely fine precipitated red iron oxide used as a polishing compound. Also known simply to the old timers as "red stuff" Ceramic suppliers that sell bulk glaze ingredients sell a very nice quality of red iron oxide by the pound very cheap, or you can buy it put up in a greasey binder in stick form from jewelry supply houses.
