Jigged Ivory?

Here are a couple pics of an old knife with handles I have never seen before as far as the jigging and material. It doesn't appear to be bone because of the density of it. The jigging is different too. I am no expert, so anyone familiar with this knife, I could use your help.
The maker is Dixon Cutlery, Germany. Thanks.
Sorry about the cell phone pics

Taken a shot in the dark here Mark but my two guesses would first be jigged bone or jigged/pressed Stag?

All I got Brother?

Thanks Bro. I know it's not pressed stag bone.....

I pulled the handles off the liners, I am leaning towards Ivory......so far. :)

My initial guess is jigged bone. If it is ivory, it's going to be difficult to say without better photos - close-up and in focus.

I've never seen any jigging like that either.

How bout a macro picture of the grain in good strong light. Same as pic two but closer in and more in focus.

I left my camera at work :( I am using my cell phone for the pics. I am having a hard time with a 10" file to "clean up" the inside of the scales.....petrified bone??

Look for criss-crossed end grain, a sure sign that it's ivory.

Thanks Philllll, I have a small cross section to look at that is 100 years old. I just put it to my belt sander and buffed it....it looks and feels like Ivory. I will take some better pic's if I can.

If I had to guess I'd say it was stag that was jigged, and like you said ,second cut stag.

I've seen before combination of wormhole with more conventional jigging but not similar to yours, I've seen only once ivory jigging but it was very delicate and on custom and not on production knife. I'd say it's probably stag, the back side of the scale doesn't looks like any kind of ivory. German knife makers used quiet a lot stag for scales.

Oops, looks like that post was removed.

I would have to agree that it definitely looks like stag. I look forward to seeing where you go with this one, Mark!
