Jigged Wood Mnandi

I, personally, wouldn't mind what was on the knife...........they are all very nice in my estimation.

I have one. Lisa did a great job on it. I'd have to say that my personal preference is to see the grain on the mnandi wood inlays, and the jigged surface prevents that from a large extent.

There was a used Mnandi with jigged Rosewood inlays for sale on eBay a couple of days ago. That’s the first time I had seen this inlay option. It seems that the jigged surface would offer greater purchase when using the knife but like Fooj says it really does take away from the knife's aesthetic value.

A couple of months ago I actually bought the one that was for sale on e-bay a few days ago. I sent it back because it had some scratches on the blade and was being sold as NIB. I see the more recent listing had it described as "like new" or some such thing. Regardless of the scratched blade, I have to say the "Jigged" wood wasn't as pleasing to the eye as the the smooth stuff where you can see the grain. I wondered too how well it would hold up over time, compared to a smooth wood. My 2 cents - go smooth, or better yet, go with giraffe bone :)

I have a "normal" Mnandi with smooth English Walnut. While its slightly slick when dry, if your hands are even slightly moist it suddenly becomes very grippy. I definately prefer the look of the smooth ones to the jigged ones but if you need that extra grip and don't mind the look of it then... you're probably after the wrong knife :P
