Thanks in advance,

I used to own an early Hanson barlow with jigged wood scales. Sold it sometime ago here on the forum.

The folding hunter in this pic has jigged wood scales. They were fairly common on that pattern in the 70's. It's the same color as Case jigged Delrin but you can see wood grain up near the bolster.

Here is the knife I recently acquired. It is a Shapliegh Hardware Co
It is stamped just that, aroound a diamond with D-E inside the diamond. It is 3-3/8" closed,a dog leg or serpentine jack. The jigged wood is what I liked about it,besides the spear & pen blades.Nice pinned shield, too
Check it out,

Looks like you scored a neat, old knife.

Thanks for the comments fellas.Does any one have one,or have seen one like this or with jigged wood like this ? I'm trying to get a sense of weather these were common ?

Are you sure its wood? On the older knives (pre-WWII) very very little jigged wood was used. In fact that Camillus rope knife is the only common example.

Your knife may be jigged bone. I have never seen an antique pocket knife of that quality level and style (or other jacks, stockmans, etc) with jigged wood handles. Real bone, various celluloid and hard rubber imitation bone styles, yes, but not jigged wood.

Sometimes Ebay sellers not knowing the difference will assume that a material like bone is wood.

knifeaholic,I hear ya',I just don't know how to tell,I gotta go look at this now outside in the good daylight with a magnafying glass

I looked it over under a light with a glass & where the scales meet the liners, you can see graining, much like cocobolo.I'm pretty darn sure it is wood.
