Does anyone know how jigging is performed on a jigging machine? Does anyone have one or know how they work? Just interested. What happened to all the machines that Schrade had perhaps? It must have an series of cutters as well as a back and forth motion .....laterally also I guess. Hmmmm? I think I saw a video once...but has been some time ago. I realize that one may jig by hand with a dremel or some other means of cutting the bone...just wondering about a complete machine. Thanks

What do you mean by "jigging machine"? Large companys have huge machines that perform multi functions at the same time in the making of a sraight knife. Frank

Frank,
He means for Jigging bone for pocket knife scales. It wouldn't necessarily have to be a huge machine, because the slices really aren't that big. Its not like you can get a 4' x 8' sheet of bone.

Neat topic. I just started jigging and did a pretty thorough search looking for machines. Seems to be somewhat of a secret thing not unlike the professional resin formulas and techniques of the pro stabilizers :) None the less, I've come up with some fair adaptations and have been practising patterns all week...

Jigging was originally done by hand. Using a small, sharp chisel, the craftsman would "pick" pieces of the bone out. For this reason, jigged bone was originally called "picked bone."
