Question:

Does anyone know what kind tool a knife maker uses to jig the bone scales? Does anyone have a video of jigging being done?

There are both machine jigging and hand jigging. Chisels, gouges, routers are all used, depending on the type of jigging.

Anybody got the Case Knife Production video? That has a short section on one way Case jigs their bone covers.

Queen had a special Winterbottom jigging machine. Time to set that running again I say.

Didn't Queen get their Winterbottom Bone from the Winterbottom Bone Company? I thought it was a Patented process by Winterbottom? See Knife World magazine Vol. 39 No. 2. Developed by Samuel Winterbottom of Egg Harbor NJ.

You must be right! I thought Queen took over that company. My point is that this Winterbottom machine produced fine results for sure!

Thanks, Will

Queen never owned Winterbottom, and in the late 1960's Queen started using Delrin handles made to look like Winterbottom Bone.
But you are correct, Winterbottom Bone was a great handle material!

As far as a couple of homeade hand tools go, pretty much the sky is the limit for
ways to create different patterns. Ken.
