Isn't that a beauty? If this does not infect Jim with HIKV nothing will. Here is a little info on this knife:

Some time back I stashed this great Gelbu
Special made by Kumar here in the computer shack where Yangdu and Vikash couldn't
grab it and ship it. I thought I would either keep this knife for myself or save it for a
special event and now that event is upon us and it is called Jim Clifton's HIKV. Anyway I observed....

) It was very well done and I
like the design of the Gelbu Special. 2) It was made by Kumar who likes lighter blades
and this khukuri weighs only 1.5 pounds which is pretty light for an 18 inch khukuri. 3)
The handle is made of saatisal, the Nepali oak which is quite strong, very pretty and I
don't think it is going to crack on us. 4) Karda(even this one is fullered!) and chakma
are exceptional and very good size -- 7+ inches. 5) The sarkis were sober when they
made the scabbard and frog and good a good do on both.

Jim, I am sending the khukuri today or tomorrow via priority mail. Be watching.

Khukuri FAQ

Bill,

So the question is, if you like it so much (and it sure looks nice to me) why can't we get a bunch more just like it? The GS is a design I've been interested in and those wood handles look really nice. It would be an interesting contrast to my 18" Sher AK with its 11/16 thick steel!

What I like and what my nephews like often is not the same. Look at Will Kwan and his MegaSalyan! However, if anybody wants a Gelbu Special made to Jim Clifton specs we can order them.

Still too heavy.

Nevertheless, a magnificent blade. I wouldn’t want to try to separate Jim from his new blade. His fingers better be pretty cold and dead before anyone tries to pry that loose. Otherwise it could be dangerous.

Jim, you are a lucky fellow. Please let us know what you think when it arrives.

Guys, Jimmy is gonna freak when he see's this! He's played with one of my BAS's and a 21" Sirupati I have, but he's gonna LOVE this!

Damn, I sure do! Hey, Jimmy, if you don't want it I'll take it off your hands!!

OAL 18" weighted 1.5 lbs s/b OK! It will be very much better with the weight of 1.25 lbs! It will be too light with the weight of just 1 lb! Just my 2c O ... Still, you're very lucky to have that Special GS ... Jim!

I guess I'm going to post a new thread on this issue!

NEPAL HO!

I think that would be a popular line of knives . Here in the USA , where most of the uses for a large blade is light work it would probably make sense . If we need some heave work done , there is a powertool available just around the corner.

Most of the time I use a big knife to clear brush or fallen limbes ( for fun ), not as a everyday tool . I don't NEED anything over 15 inches and 1 1/2-2 lbs.

Time for dinner guys,i believe it's called "CROW"!Blues is gonna give it to me raw!looked at the picture, drooled, wimpered, called the post office at 12pm,went & knocked on the door at 2am.I'm "not"infected,BRIAN,VINCE,BLUES,HOWARD,MOHD,EDD,GUYS,I WQN! I don't need another K,MY BROTHER MIGHT,OR SOME FRIENDS!!YOU ALL UNDERSTAND!!BILL,when is the next shipment?? I NEED TO KNOW!ANY QUESTIONS??
Jim

New shipment? It came in Wed PM. Took my kid up to the doctor, and I saw them just before I turned around and came home. I'm sure Bill will tell you all about it.

And I briefly fondled a 25" KK. As soon as I try to decide how many, the circuit breaker in my brain trips out.

Uncle Bill? The old khook is looking better, I guess.

I on the other hand am getter nervouser and nervouser as I approach the big five-oh in, say, about 94 hours. Always figured any redblooded guy under 50 should be able to take a look at an attractive derriere and either put a face with it or recognise it wasn't local. Now I walk down the supermarket aisles in our little town, and I start second guessing myself, leading to a panic attack. My first glance and classification has been right, each time, but I'm doubting myself, wondering when the deterioration starts becoming significant. Or maybe it already has, since they say the memory is the first thing to go, so have I already had symptomatology and and forgotten it, or more likely refused to accept it and built a barrier of denial? Starting to hyperventilate....

Uncle Bill: yes you do need a line of light khuks.

Reason #1:

For the ultimate deterent effect, ya gotta be able to twirl these things fast enough all that anyone who needs convincing can see is a blur - a very LOOOONG shiny blur - like a spinning prop.

Reason #2:

Remember the story of Elmer Keith, father of the 44 magnum. Back in his single action totin' days, ( from the book "Sixguns" written by him ) he was out with a friend when he stepped on a rattlesnake. Next thing he knew he's landed couple yards off, wondering how the 45 got in his hand and why his friend can't stop laughing. According to the friend, when Elmer jumped, he shot the snake once on the way up, once at the top of the jump, and once more on the way down.

You ain't gonna move a khuk much over 2 to maybe 2 1/2 lbs. max like that.

Brian, my friend, talked to Vince,i think i have managed to bury myself.i think i "MIGHT" BE VIRUSED!! but HELL, I'M IN GOOD COMPANY! NOTICE I SAID MIGHT BE!!what do you think!can't wait to get this blade!!
jim

Jim, no doubt about it, you are a certifiable khukuri knut.

As are the rest of us.....

Harry

Jim, the only sure way to avoid temptation is to yield to it.
You had better hope that special Gelbu Special will be all you ever need, otherwise, you're doomed.

Just like the rest of us...
