HI gang,
I bought a new knife the other day, not knowing too much about the maker. It felt like a good buy so I bought it.
I bought the knife for 125.00
its a "hunter" with bone handles made by Jim Downie.
He's a canadian maker been in business for a long time. I think he does stock removal and last I can tell he was at the Canadian Knife show last year.
Now I am curious as to what type of steel he works with. I am trying to figure out what kind of steel my knife is made from.

I have seen some pics of his knives, but only the filet knives have a steel mentioned... ATS 34....
Does anyone know anything about Jim Downie ?
Thanks

Jim's a really good guy who turns out quality knives for not a lot of money. Not too fancy for the most part, but well made and ready to work.

If you search for Canadian Knifemakers Guild on this site you will no doubt come across pictures of Jim and his work.

I have been all around the internet and can't seem to find much about the steel he works with. The knife is real real nice, love the handle, fits my hand like a glove. I haven't given the knife a work out yet, maybe this weekend.
Do you know what kind of steel he usually works with ?
I was told that this knife was purchased from the Blade show back in 07 or 08.
thanks

He works with Damasteel and ATS34..Googling jim downie knives got me a ton of hits. :)
