I have a wood handled, tapered tang sheath knife with leather sheath, knife is marked "MERRITT Long Beach, CA". I found in Levine's IV that says, he worked with Loveless since 1982 in Riverside California. It says, Long Beach, CA. prior to Riverside, but does not give dates. Also, the tang has white and nickel silver liners between the wood and tang. Nickel silver single guard. Sheath is marked "MERRITT". Are his knives collectible/desirable? Whats he doing now?

Thanks,

I believe that he still works with Loveless. I could be wrong.
You might give Loveless a call and ask, he does take phone calls.

You are correct..........he is still working with Bob and has been for a long time. The knife in quesion is probably from the early 80s.
I think he has been working with RWL since about 85.

I was a Marine in 1984, and purchased a full taper tang Merritt with a linen micarta handle that year. Met Bob Loveless soon after.

Bob and Jim were just exploring working together.

I'll never forget that because I didn't have enough to pay (a full hundred bucks for a knife) and at the knife show Jim said here! handed me the knife and his card, and said "You come pay me on the 15th. I trust you, you're a Marine."

The only markings on the knife are Merritt.

Loveless was still a crazy man! Had a Suzuki Katana... Man said "it was like raping an ape. You had to be real intent."

Greetings,
I have seen some Loveless/Jim Merritt's knives under Legendaryknifemakers.com You could probably check it out. Regards.
