Here is Jim Smyth's newest model, the Bad Attitude flipper. I've been fortunate enough to have had the opportunity to preview the first one of these that has left his possession, and I am happy to report that I am really blown away by it.
This piece has Racing Stripe-with-Raindrops pattern Timascus scales and a handrubbed Stellite 6K blade. The thumbstuds are inlaid with MOP cabochons. Compared to past liner locks of Jim's, which were sturdy but slim, this one is built like a tank, with 0.100" liners and good heft in the handle. The Bad Attitude is also a bit bigger than Jim's past models, with a 4" blade and a 9" OAL.
Jim has always paid outstanding attention to detail on the knives that he makes, but I really feel like he has taken his work to a new level on the Bad Attitude. Everything is put together absolutely flawlessly on this piece. The flip action is super-smooth and requires no wrist action whatsoever in any position, the lock-up is rock-solid with zero blade play, and the blade centering is dead perfect. The handle contouring fits the hand well, too. As much as I've examined this folder, I can't find a single flaw in its construction.
This flipper is truly one of the most impressively built knives that I've ever had the pleasure of handling. Jim will be at Blade Show this year, and he will probably have at least one more Bad Attitude flipper there for people to handle. If you are going, be sure to find him and check it out!
